It's List Friday Again!!!

I was trying to think of a timely topic for List Friday this week. I reviewed the upcoming week’s events, and came up with two topics:

  • Winter sports, in honor of the 2006 Winter Olympics (yawn – and really, how many great winter sports films are there – if you don’t count Warren Miller films, The Snowball Express, or Cool Runnings … yeeeeaaahhh mon). Yo - I'm KIDDING. Well, about Warren Miller and Cool Runnings ... Ha!
  • or something to do with Valentine's Day.

I think you can tell which topic won out …

List 10 Love / Sex Scenes That Make Your Toes Curl!

These scenes don't have to be graphically sexy - although they could be. Maybe it makes you sigh - or cry, or want to hug someone. Maybe there's a scene that makes you fall in love with love - or maybe there's a scene that makes you, as Austin Powers would say, "Horny - baby!" Whatever it is, however it strikes you, list it here by commenting below.

On you mark, get set … LIST!

My list … in no particular order:

1.It’s a Wonderful Life – George kisses Mary at her mother’s home. Mary says: “George, George, George.” And George says, “Mary, Mary, Mary.” And they smush their cheeks and kiss ugly. When I was younger, I giggled at that scene. Now I choke up and sigh.
2. Shakespeare in Love – quoting from Will’s play and making love at the same time. The perfect sex scene (at least to me, with my English degree and all …).
3. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days – This is my sleeper choice. ;-) I love the scene when Andie and Ben are in his parent’s bathroom and Andie realizes she really truly likes Ben. And the way Matthew McConaughy looks at her well … makes me melt. So – it’s really the way he looks at a woman, which he probably gives in nearly all of his movies. But I had to pick one – so here it is.
4. Eeek! The sex scene in the kitchen in Fatal Attraction. For all the wrong reasons.
5. The English Patient – the bathtub scene with Katharine and Ralph Fienne’s character. The sunlight makes their affair so open and sexy.
6. Titanic – not the sex scene in the car, but when Jack is sketching Rose’s portrait. Old Rose says it was the “most erotic moment of her life,” and I should think so!
7. Sense and Sensibility – I love when Elinor cries at the end of the movie because Edward comes back to her. Her relief, and her love for him, mix together in a wave of tears that is absolutely cathartic.
8. Terms of Endearment – While not a typical love scene, it is some powerful love that pushes Mom, Aurora, to frantic screaming in the hospital when her daughter needs pain medicine. I crumble each time I see this scene.
9. Brokeback Mountain – Ennis and Jack’s kiss and embrace some 3 or 4 years after their time spent on Brokeback Mtn. This is the first time we really see their need and passion for each other. I bawled so hard I nearly cried out.
10. Boogie Nights – ewww, what a weird sex scene between Dirk Digler and Amber Waves. It’s just so ….. Oedipal, but definitely memorable. Plus – they have all that stupid porno dialogue. So you don’t know what to do … laugh? Towel off? Cover your eyes? Peek?

Next???? :-)

Hi! Here're mine!!! I'm so feeling the love right now.

1. Ditto to Pegs on the Shakespeare in Love scene.

2. The Player: The sex scene between Tim Robbins and Greta Scacci (spelling, sorry), and the whole thing is a single shot, extreme close up on their faces. Very sexy.

3. Breakfast at Tiffany's (Because I will find reason to list it every week, I love it so): Cat! Cat!! and the rain.

4. Another rain reference... Say Anything: The shot when they are kissing in the rain...

5. Braveheart (shout out, Maureen!): The Waterfall scene. Ooh.

6. The Graduate: I just love the banter, and Benjamin's nervous energy in the "Do you want me to seduce you?" scene...

7. Harold and Maude: Okay, not so much a steamy love scene, but one of my favorite and most romantic senitments ever: Harold tells Maude, "But I'm in love with you," and Maude says, "That's terrific, go love some more!!!"

8. CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT... I love that part of The Lion King, and I'm not afraid to admit it.

9. Delicatessen: Two people are having sex in a creaky bed in an upstairs apartment. The rest of the building starts to move to their rhythm. It's so brilliant.

10. And finally, the ENTIRE film of Like Water For Chocolate. That movie OOZES sexiness, it's so fun, and tasty, and tempting and everything that love and passion and sex should be!!!

1.How could you have forgetten all the kisses in the kiss montage of Cinema Paradiso!!!! Sooooo romantic!

2.Also I'm obsessed with the new Pride & Prejudice and just loooooove watching the vulnerable and slightly sullen Mr. Darcy strolling across the moor at dawn in his flowing coat to try just one more time to see if Elizabeth Bennett will return his ardor.....

3.In the Mr. Darcy theme, I also love Bridget Jones chasing Mark Darcy in her underwear in the snow.

4.I also love the scene in Life is Beautiful when he finally wins his Principessa!

5.And the beautiful poems of Neruda in Il Postino.... Ahhh....

6.Han Solo in Return of the Jedi when he thinks that Leia is in Love with Luke, but she is really just dealing with the idea that he is her long lost brother....Almost makes the Ewok song/dance worth it.

7.I'm kinda fond of the scenes in Harry met Sally with the split screen where they are both in bed but talking on the phone...

8.I love Love Actually and especially Colin Firth & Aurelia.....They can't even speak the same language. I love when he goes to the restaurant where she is working and proposes...

9.The love of Wesley & Buttercup in the Princess Bride :)

10. "In your Eyes" from Say Anything, when he's holding up the goddamn boom box. Jesus, it just makes me weep.

I'm getting my list in under the wire:

1. The scene in “Body Heat” when Kathleen and William do it in the hallway.
2. “Dirty Dancing” when the LP is playing and it’s all slow. It’s pretty PG, and it’s really hot.
3. I think the chemistry in “Unfaithful” is awesome. I was totally in love with Olivier for the entire movie.
4. The “Basic Instinct” scene that I always remember is the opening scene; it’s really feral.
5. “When Harry Met Sally” has some great scenes, and the ending is so great when she says “I really hate you, Harry” and you know she doesn’t. And he’s run the whole way to see her, and “It had to be you…” is playing in the background (and Harry Connick is singing it… sigh.)
(Aside: So many love stories just end badly, which is my biggest problem with Peggy’s sleeper “How to Lose a Man…” They just lose me when the two of them act so stupid on the stage…)
6. In “Brokeback Mountain,” the flashback scene where Ennis is hugging Jack from behind before going to sleep with the sheep, and Jack is asleep on his feet. Ennis is so tender and loving toward Jack, and we haven’t seen a lot of that. I think it’s actually Jack’s memory as he says goodbye for what will be the last time.

I’m short a few… but I've had a long week!!
