Sorry for the absence

We're not gone. Peggy has had computer troubles. I've been fretting about my son.

But I've been watching movies. I never stop.

Recently, I watched Pride and Prejudice, which is not the BBC one, I guess, but is fantastic and must be watched.

And I also saw North Country, which was a very gritty human drama which turns into a very bad episode of Perry Mason within about 3 minutes. But it's still worth watching.

So, don't fear movie lurvers. We're still here.

Molly - thanks for posting something! So yes, while I've been computer-challenged, like you, I have not given up on my movie obsession!

Last weekend, Connor and Scott and I watched KING KONG! again (on the big screen). I was once again reminded of how totally gypped Naomi Watts was of an Academy Award nomination. Her performance in that movie made it more than a remake. I now can't picture King Kong without HER. The effects were still stunning, but I was surprised that they still didn't touch up some of the more obviously digitally enhanced effects. When I saw Kong in the theater, I knew that Peter Jackson and crew had rushed to get the film finished and I had hoped that they would go back to the drawing board on some of the effects so as not to make them look so hokey. Oh well.
Scott and I also watched The Island this weekend. I was surprised to discover how much I enjoyed it. I didn't know much about the plot prior to seeing it, other than it was sci-fi, and had a Logan's Run kinda feel to it. Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johannsen were cast in ideal roles for them. I enjoyed the naivete in both of them modulate to awareness and sophistication as they slowly figured out what "The Island" meant ... I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys sci fi but isn't a total sci-fi obssessed freak. :-)
This weekend? Well, I've promised The Chronic(WHAT!)cles of Narnia to Kay, and I need to see Brokeback again - so a rehash of another two movies that I have already seen.
Hoooooray for Hollllywooood.
